Relative permeability

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008508

The ratio of the effective permeability of a porous medium, such as soil, to a specific fluid when other immiscible fluids are present, to its absolute permeability. In land-surface modeling, the relative permeability to water depends on the soil's water saturation level, affecting how readily water moves through the soil. This property is a dimensionless value ranging from zero at residual saturation to one when the medium is fully saturated with that fluid.
