Dip circle
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005028
An instrument used to measure the magnetic inclination, or dip, which is the angle between the Earth's magnetic field lines and the horizontal plane. While primarily a geomagnetic instrument, understanding magnetic dip is relevant in atmospheric studies involving charged particles and aurorae. It consists of a magnetic needle pivoted to move in a vertical plane.
