Disturbance
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005076
A localized variation or perturbation in the mean state of the atmosphere, often associated with a specific weather pattern. The term can describe a wide array of phenomena, from a small-scale eddy to a large-scale cyclonic system. For example, a tropical disturbance is a discrete area of organized convection in the tropics with a detectable, non-frontal cyclonic circulation that has maintained its identity for at least 24 hours.
