Double tide
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005108
A tidal pattern characterized by two high waters of nearly the same height, separated by a short period of relatively constant water level, or two low waters of similar height. This phenomenon is often caused by the interaction of the primary tidal wave with local bathymetry, coastal geometry, or resonant oscillations within a basin. Double tides are observed in specific coastal regions, such as parts of the English Channel.
