Dry convection

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005156

Atmospheric convection that occurs in an unsaturated air mass, where rising air parcels cool at the dry adiabatic lapse rate without reaching their lifting condensation level. This process leads to vertical mixing of heat and momentum but does not produce clouds or precipitation. It is common in arid regions or during the initial stages of daytime heating.
