dual-Doppler analysis

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005175

A technique for reconstructing the three-dimensional wind field within a storm by combining radial velocity data from two or more Doppler weather radars. Each radar measures only the component of motion toward or away from it, so observations from at least two different viewing angles are required to resolve the full horizontal wind vectors. This method is used to map airflow patterns in phenomena like thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes.
