Dual-wavelength radar
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005177
A radar system that transmits and receives electromagnetic energy at two distinct wavelengths simultaneously or in rapid succession. This technique allows for the differentiation of precipitation types and the estimation of particle size distributions by comparing the attenuation and backscatter at each wavelength. It is particularly effective for detecting and characterizing hail within thunderstorms.
