Earth-atmosphere radiation budget

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010488

The balance between incoming solar radiation absorbed by the Earth system and outgoing infrared radiation emitted back to space. This budget determines the Earth's average temperature and drives atmospheric and oceanic circulation. Imbalances in this budget, often due to changes in greenhouse gas concentrations, lead to global climate change.
