Equilibrium tide
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005441
The theoretical tidal bulge that would be produced on a hypothetical, frictionless, uniform ocean covering the entire Earth, if it were in instantaneous equilibrium with the gravitational forces of the Moon and Sun. This idealized model predicts the general pattern of tidal forces. It serves as a reference for more complex dynamic tidal theories.
