Equilibrium spheroid
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005439
A theoretical shape that a rotating fluid body, such as the Earth's oceans or atmosphere, would assume if it were in hydrostatic equilibrium under the influence of gravity and centrifugal force. This idealized shape is an oblate spheroid, flattened at the poles and bulging at the equator. It serves as a reference for geodetic measurements.
