Equilibrium range
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005437
A spectral region in wave dynamics where the energy distribution of waves is primarily determined by wave breaking and dissipation, rather than by wind input or nonlinear interactions. In oceanography, this concept applies to wind-generated surface waves, where the wave spectrum follows a specific power law. For example, the Phillips spectrum describes this range for gravity waves.
