Erg

A unit of energy and work in the centimeter-gram-second (CGS) system of units. One erg is defined as the amount of work done by a force of one dyne acting over a distance of one centimeter. While largely superseded by the joule in the International System of Units (SI), it is still encountered in some older scientific literature, with one joule equaling 10^7 ergs.
