Ergodic
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005463
Describing a stochastic process where the time average of a single realization of the process is equal to the ensemble average over all possible realizations. In atmospheric science, this concept implies that a sufficiently long time series of a meteorological variable can provide statistical properties equivalent to those obtained from many simultaneous observations. This property is often assumed in climate studies.
