Flux adjustment

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005656

An empirical correction applied in coupled ocean-atmosphere general circulation models to prevent climate drift, which is the tendency for the model's climate state to diverge from observations over long simulations. These adjustments, typically added to the surface heat, freshwater, and momentum fluxes, compensate for systematic model biases. While effective, they can mask underlying model deficiencies.
