Forced wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005705
An atmospheric or oceanic wave whose motion is sustained by a continuous external energy source, rather than propagating freely after an initial disturbance. This forcing mechanism can be a persistent wind stress, a topographic feature, or a continuous heat source. Unlike free waves, forced waves do not necessarily satisfy the dispersion relation for their given medium.
