Force-restore method
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005706
A technique used in land surface models to simulate the diurnal cycle of soil temperature and moisture. It simplifies the complex heat and moisture transfer processes within the soil by using a prognostic equation for the surface layer and diagnostic equations for deeper layers. This method balances the forcing from atmospheric conditions with a restoring term that drives the soil state towards an equilibrium value.
