Free wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005761
A wave that propagates independently of any external forcing mechanism after its initial generation, maintaining its characteristics based on the properties of the medium. These waves are governed by the internal dynamics of the fluid, such as gravity or buoyancy. Ocean swells, generated by distant storms, are a common example of free waves.
