Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-001055

  1. Small, ragged cloud fragments that appear detached from a larger cloud base, often forming below nimbostratus or cumulonimbus clouds. These clouds are indicative of turbulent air motion and are sometimes referred to as scud clouds. They form when moist air is lifted and cooled to its condensation point within a turbulent layer.
