Fundamental frequency
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005854
The lowest frequency at which a periodic oscillation or vibrating system repeats, also called the first harmonic. Every higher harmonic is an integer multiple of it, so a 24-hour cycle has harmonics at 12 hours, 8 hours and so on. In atmospheric science the idea underlies harmonic analysis of periodic signals such as the daily cycle of temperature or pressure.
