Harmonic analysis
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006172
A mathematical technique used to decompose a periodic function or time series into a sum of simple sinusoidal functions, each with a frequency that is an integer multiple of a fundamental frequency. This method reveals the underlying periodic components within complex data sets. In meteorology, it is applied to identify and quantify cycles in atmospheric variables like temperature, pressure, or wind speed.
