Geyser
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005962
A type of hot spring that periodically erupts, forcefully ejecting a column of hot water and steam into the atmosphere. These eruptions occur when geothermally heated groundwater becomes trapped in underground conduits, causing pressure to build until it flashes into steam and violently expels the water above it. The ejected steam and water can create localized microclimates with high humidity and fog, and contribute to unique ecosystems in geothermal areas.
