Global area coverage
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005994
A type of satellite data product that provides a lower-resolution, daily global view of the Earth's surface and atmosphere. Global Area Coverage (GAC) data is created by systematically sampling the full-resolution sensor data onboard polar-orbiting satellites, such as the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR). GAC data has a nominal spatial resolution of approximately 4 kilometers, in contrast to the 1.1-kilometer resolution of the corresponding Local Area Coverage (LAC) data.
