Ground streamer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006091
A luminous discharge that propagates upward from the Earth's surface towards a downward-moving leader during a lightning strike. These streamers are initiated by the strong electric field created by the approaching leader. When a ground streamer connects with a leader, it completes the conductive path for the main lightning discharge.
