Ice apron

A mass of snow and ice that clings to a steep wall, as on the headwall of a cirque or on a valley wall beneath a hanging glacier. The term is also applied to ice that pours from an ice sheet across the rim of a plateau and to the lobe of a piedmont glacier. It is not a flat shelf on level ground, but ice attached to a steep slope or wall.
