Ice flow
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006413
The movement of glacial ice, ice sheets, or ice shelves under the influence of gravity and internal deformation. This process is typically very slow, ranging from meters to kilometers per year, but can accelerate in outlet glaciers or ice streams. Ice flow is a fundamental mechanism in the dynamics of large ice masses and contributes to sea level rise.
