Infiltration gallery
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006535
A subsurface structure designed to collect groundwater, consisting of one or more horizontal conduits placed below the water table. These conduits, which are perforated or have porous walls, intercept groundwater flow over a large area and direct it to a central collection point. Infiltration galleries are effective in shallow aquifers where the saturated thickness is insufficient for conventional vertical wells, or along riverbanks to capture bank filtrate.
