Interferometer

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006589

An instrument that uses the principle of wave interference to make precise measurements of physical quantities, such as distance, wavelength, or refractive index. It typically splits a wave into two or more paths, recombining them to produce an interference pattern. In meteorology, interferometers are used in remote sensing to measure atmospheric temperature and composition profiles.
