Interference

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006587

The superposition of two or more waves, giving a combined pattern in which the amplitudes reinforce where the waves are in phase (constructive interference) and cancel where they are out of phase (destructive interference). In atmospheric science it affects radar and radio signals, for example through multipath fading, and it produces the faint supernumerary arcs seen inside the primary rainbow.
