Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006744

A spectral model describing the distribution of wave energy across different frequencies in a wind-generated sea. It is an empirical model derived from measurements taken during the Joint North Sea Wave Project. The JONSWAP spectrum is widely used in oceanography and coastal engineering to characterize wave conditions.
