Pierson-Moskowitz spectrum

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010670

A mathematical model describing the distribution of wave energy across different frequencies in a fully developed wind sea. It provides a theoretical representation of the wave spectrum when the wind has blown uniformly over a large fetch for a sufficient duration. This spectrum is widely used in oceanography and coastal engineering to characterize sea state and predict wave conditions, with peak frequencies typically ranging from 0.05 to 0.2 Hz.
