Labile
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006826
Describing an atmospheric state that is unstable or easily disturbed, particularly with respect to vertical motion. A labile atmosphere has a lapse rate that is greater than the moist adiabatic lapse rate, meaning that a parcel of air, if lifted, will continue to rise due to its buoyancy. This condition is conducive to the development of convection, thunderstorms, and other severe weather phenomena.
