Lagrangian current measurement

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006836

A method of observing ocean or atmospheric currents by tracking the movement of a free-drifting object, such as a buoy or balloon, that moves with the fluid. The trajectory of the object directly represents the path of the fluid parcel it is embedded in. This technique provides direct measurements of fluid parcel displacement over time.
