Lapse line
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006874
A line plotted on a thermodynamic diagram, such as a Skew-T log-P diagram, that represents a constant rate of temperature change with height. Key lapse lines include the dry adiabat, representing the cooling rate of an unsaturated air parcel, and the moist adiabat, for a saturated parcel. Meteorologists compare the environmental temperature profile to these standard lapse lines to assess atmospheric stability.
