Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000049

  1. A line on a thermodynamic diagram, such as a skew-T log-P chart, that represents an adiabatic process. It shows the change in temperature of an air parcel as it rises or sinks without exchanging heat with its surroundings. Dry adiabats represent unsaturated air, while moist adiabats represent saturated air.

  2. A line on a thermodynamic chart relating the pressure and temperature of a substance (such as air) that is undergoing a transformation in which no heat is exchanged with its environment.
