Layer depth

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006896

The vertical extent of a specific atmospheric layer, such as the planetary boundary layer or a stable inversion layer. This measurement indicates the thickness over which certain atmospheric processes, like mixing or pollutant dispersion, are confined. It is often determined from vertical profiles of temperature, humidity, or wind obtained from radiosondes or remote sensing instruments.
