Marsden square

A cell of a world grid that divides the oceans into squares of ten degrees of latitude by ten degrees of longitude, each with its own identifying number of one to three digits, used for filing and sorting marine weather and oceanographic observations. Each square splits into one hundred one-degree subsquares numbered 00 to 99. The numbering is not a simple sequence, and the highest square numbers reach 936.
