Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007136

A tall, slender structure erected to support meteorological instruments at specific heights above the ground. These structures allow for the measurement of atmospheric variables like wind speed, wind direction, temperature, and humidity at different levels within the atmospheric boundary layer. Masts are commonly used at weather stations, research sites, and for wind energy resource assessment.
