Pyrheliometry
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008223
The field of measurement concerned with quantifying direct beam solar irradiance. It employs instruments called pyrheliometers, which are pointed directly at the sun to measure the intensity of radiation received on a surface perpendicular to the sun's rays, excluding diffuse sky radiation and reflected solar radiation. Pyrheliometry data is expressed in watts per square meter and is used in solar energy resource assessment, climate modeling, and atmospheric research.
