Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010605
A statistical function describing the distribution of speeds for particles in a gas at a specific temperature and in thermal equilibrium. It demonstrates that particle speeds vary around an average value, with very few particles moving at extremely low or high speeds. The distribution's peak identifies the most probable speed, which is distinct from and lower than both the average speed and the root-mean-square speed of the particles.
