Stefan-Boltzmann constant
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010786
A fundamental physical constant that relates the total energy radiated per unit surface area of a black body across all wavelengths to the fourth power of its absolute temperature. Denoted by the Greek letter sigma (σ), its value is approximately 5.67 x 10^-8 W m^-2 K^-4. This constant is central to understanding radiative heat transfer in the atmosphere and Earth's energy balance.
