Mean sphere depth
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007167
The uniform depth the world ocean would have if the solid Earth were smoothed to a featureless sphere, found from the ocean volume and the area of the whole planet. It is much smaller than the actual mean ocean depth of about 3,700 meters, because the oceans cover only part of the globe. Estimates fall between roughly 2,400 and 2,700 meters, depending on the data and the method used.
