Microvariation of pressure
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007285
Small, rapid fluctuations in atmospheric pressure superimposed on the larger-scale synoptic pressure field. These fluctuations are associated with atmospheric phenomena such as turbulence, gravity waves, and convection, or with acoustic waves from sources like explosions. The amplitudes of these variations are on the order of microbars (μb) or pascals (Pa), and they are detected by sensitive instruments called microbarographs.
