Mie theory
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007297
A complete analytical solution for the scattering of electromagnetic radiation by a homogeneous sphere of arbitrary size. This theory is applied in atmospheric optics to model how light interacts with aerosols, cloud droplets, and ice crystals, which are often approximated as spheres. It accounts for both absorption and scattering, providing detailed information on angular distribution and polarization.
