Scattered radiation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008688
Electromagnetic radiation that has been deflected from its original direction of propagation after interacting with particles or inhomogeneities in a medium. In the Earth's atmosphere, solar radiation is scattered by air molecules (Rayleigh scattering) and aerosols (Mie scattering), contributing to diffuse sky radiation. This radiation is responsible for the blue color of the sky and the brightness of clouds.
