Rayleigh's formula
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008427
An equation that describes the intensity of light scattered by particles much smaller than the wavelength of the incident light, a phenomenon known as Rayleigh scattering. This formula indicates that the scattered intensity is inversely proportional to the fourth power of the wavelength. It explains why the sky appears blue, as shorter blue wavelengths are scattered more effectively than longer red wavelengths.
