Rayleigh-Bénard convection
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010719
A type of natural convection that occurs in a fluid layer heated from below and cooled from above, leading to the formation of regular cellular patterns. When the temperature difference exceeds a critical value, buoyancy forces overcome viscous forces, initiating fluid motion. This phenomenon is a fundamental model for understanding atmospheric convection and cloud formation processes.
