Model calibration

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007357

The process of adjusting the parameters and initial conditions of a numerical weather prediction or climate model to improve its agreement with observed atmospheric data. This involves systematically comparing model outputs with real-world measurements and making iterative changes to reduce discrepancies. Calibration can involve tuning parameters such as cloud microphysics schemes or surface albedo values.
