Overturn
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007763
The process of vertical mixing in a body of water or the atmosphere, where denser fluid sinks and less dense fluid rises. In lakes, this occurs seasonally as temperature changes affect water density, leading to a redistribution of nutrients and oxygen. Atmospheric overturning can refer to deep convection.
