Cabbeling
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004105
A process in oceanography where two water masses of different temperatures and salinities, when mixed, produce a new water mass that is denser than either of the original components. This denser water then sinks, contributing to deep ocean circulation. It occurs because the equation of state for seawater is non-linear, leading to density increases upon mixing.
