Convective overturn
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004674
The process by which an unstable layer of fluid, such as air, rapidly mixes vertically as warmer, less dense fluid rises and cooler, denser fluid sinks. This leads to a redistribution of heat and moisture throughout the layer, often resulting in a more stable stratification. Convective overturn is a fundamental mechanism for vertical energy transfer in the atmosphere.
